About Andrej
Pianist Andrej Markovic (b.2001) is an up and coming artist in the classical music scene. Born in Belgrade to a family of musicians, Markovic has studied with the highly esteemed Corey McVicar at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He studied under a merit-based Scholarship at SFCM which is awarded on the basis of artistic promise in the field.
In addition to performing, Andrej is dedicated to sharing his knowledge through teaching, helping aspiring musicians develop their skills. His passion for classical music is evident in both his performances and his commitment to mentoring future pianists.
Markovic has also been awarded a full sponsorship from the SBB Foundation out of Belgrade. Coming from a family of avid and professional musicians in the fifth generation, he feels strongly dedicated to pursuing his art on the basis of sincerity and vitality of the human spirit. Markovic has also been the winner of the Serbian Republic Competition in 2019 and has concurrently won first prizes and been honored laureate in over 30 other competitions both in Europe. Markovic has also pursued study with many other distinguished pianists including Sara Davis Buechner, Natalia Trull, Yuja Wang..

What can you teach me better on your instrument than any other teacher?
Technique, sonority, phrasing, singing in the piano, music, emotion.
How did you learn to play your instrument?
I was raised by my father who was a Croatian violinist.
What equipment do you play on today?
Steinway and Yamaha
Which personal trait helped you the most while practicing?
Attention to detail.
What does your instrument have that others don't?
It can produce so many colors, and be played in any way. It has 88 keys. Every kind of music can be played on it.
How do you handle children?
Very well, I love kids.
What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?
Masterclass with Yuja Wang, also when I won Serbian Republic Piano Competition.
What was the biggest stage you played on?
Belgrade Philharmonic, Zagreb Philharmonic, Budapest Philharmonic, Caroline Hume Concert Hall, many concert halls in Europe.
Which record would you take with you to the desert island?
Prokofiev: Concerto No. 2, Evgeny Kissin
Besides music, what else is important in your life?
My dog, my best friends, good food, my religion, going for walks, fashion.
