About Michelle
Recognized for her “big, lavish sound,” flutist Michelle Chang enjoys an active career as a performing artist. She has performed in various venues around the world, from the Bayeux Cathedral in France to Carnegie Hall in New York. As a prize winner in various competitions, including the American Protege International Music Competition, American Fine Arts International Competition, and U.S. Open Music Competition, Michelle is accustomed to a soloistic setting. She was also selected as a finalist in the San Francisco Conservatory’s concerto competition. Michelle performed regularly in orchestra concerts at Davies Symphony Hall on behalf of the prestigious San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra for several seasons in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning conductor Michael Tilson-Thomas.
As a pedagogue of flute and piano, Michelle is dedicated to fostering an enriching and holistic learning environment to empower students to attain musical and personal growth. She hopes her students find enjoyment in the art form, develop a curiosity about the world that shapes the music they play, and simply look forward to their music lessons. She previously served as a flute coach at Notre Dame High School, Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts, and Alvarado Intermediate School and Telesis Academy.
Michelle spent summers studying orchestral works and chamber music at Marrowstone Music Festival and Domaine Forget. She also plays as a wedding performer on behalf of Pink Mozart Entertainment and OC Strings.
In addition to teaching and performing, Michelle is also apprenticing in flute repair with technician Lori Lee in San Francisco.
Michelle holds a Bachelor’s of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Master’s of Music from Cal State Fullerton.
