About Myra
Myra Hinrichs, violinist, is currently enrolled at the University of California, San Diego finishing up her doctorate. Before that she lived and worked in Chicago after graduating from the Oberlin College and Conservatory and the Civic Orchestra training program. She has 16 years of teaching experience working with young and old violinists alike. She has completed up through Level 2 of Suzuki training, studying with Professor Vera McCoy-Sulentic. In performance, she is a member of Chartreuse, a string trio devoted to performing the music of living composers from around the world. Myra has appeared with many other ensembles including the Arkansas Symphony, dal niente, 3+1 Quartet, Mucca Pazza, mocrep, the Morton Feldman Chamber Players, the Madison Symphony, and a.pe.ri.od.ic. She hopes to share how profoundly music can connect us together with her students.

What can you teach me better on your instrument than any other teacher?
I love teaching about contemporary music. In recent years composers started to open up the idea what is a "good" sound. I've even written some music that involves making the sounds of a fire!
How did you learn to play your instrument?
Taking lessons and playing in chamber groups with friends
What equipment do you play on today?
I have a violin made in Minnesota by David Folland, I'm the only one who has ever owned it!
Which personal trait helped you the most while practicing?
I'm quite stubborn - I really repeat things many times!
What does your instrument have that others don't?
Harmonics!
How do you handle children?
I meet children on their level and try to understand what makes them excited about music.
What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?
Putting on my own concerts is always a great experience, whether it's for my students or for myself.
What was the biggest stage you played on?
I played with The Who on their tour, and I played with Lorde at Lollapalooza many years ago
Which record would you take with you to the desert island?
I've been into Parlor Games by Jenny Scheinman and Allison Miller recently, but all time fav? Hilary Hahn playing Barber
Besides music, what else is important in your life?
my family, my dog, cooking, eating, rock climbing
