About Natasha


Originally born in Camarthan Wales, Natasha has been residing in Portland since the age of two.  She graduated with honors from Portland State University in 2011 with her BA in piano and masters in music education.  She has been singing, teaching, performing, and composing on piano and guitar ever since.

Natasha was originally trained in classical piano, with a jazz minor and has adopted and become proficient at teaching any style. She also has a decade of experience playing key’s, guitar, and singing in various bands around Portland.

Natasha embraces the teaching style she calls the “student-centered” lesson, which means each student is interviewed to determine goals in their music education and lessons are then tailored to each unique learning style, pace, preference and unique capacities.

Natasha is currently teaching in-home lessons in Portland, Oregon and online everywhere

Joss Stone, Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz, Bob Marley. Hard to choose

Which musician has influenced you the most?

I like a wide spectrum. Usually based on lyrics vocals and songwriting. Jimi Hendrix Janis Joplin. Cream, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, CSN. No Doubt, RHCP, Lettuce, Bill Withers, Jill Scott, too many to name 🥰

What can you teach me better on your instrument than any other teacher?

I’m Andover educated in technique. I can teach the best mechanical advantage at the piano to not only sound the best, but for ease of play and avoiding injury.

How did you learn to play your instrument?

Began playing at a sitters self taught for a few months then took lessons through childhood. Took lessons in college and got my degrees in piano. I’ve had five different teachers.

What equipment do you play on today?

Live piano, A nord stage 2 keyboard, Amps/mixers/EDM equipment/vocal mics, two different acoustic guitars.

Which personal trait helped you the most while practicing?

Perfectionism

What does your instrument have that others don't?

88 key range can create wider spectrum of tones than other instruments

How do you handle children?

There are no mistakes only learning and fun is how we learn

What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?

Playing in bands around town.

What was the biggest stage you played on?

Outdoor festivals for my female journey tribute.

Which record would you take with you to the desert island?

Physical Graffiti

Besides music, what else is important in your life?

Dance, connection w others, billiards. Nature.
