About Owen

Owen is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and producer based in Portland. He has played one instrument or another since the age of six. Since 2017, he has taught piano, guitar, bass, and ukulele to students ranging from five to sixty-five, each year gaining more students than the last. He strongly believes that everyone has a song inside them and that the ultimate goal of playing music should be to authentically express ourselves and have a good time doing it.

With that in mind, Owen tailors his teaching styles to each individual student based on what they already know and where they want to go. Everyone learns music slightly differently, and he has learned to stay aware of what students respond positively to, leaning into that as a basis for learning. He believes that as long as there is clear communication and a positive attitude, it's always possible to find the perfect balance between boredom (too easy) and frustration (too challenging), which is essential for steady improvement while still enjoying ourselves on our musical journeys.

Owen graduated from Emerson College with a degree in Film & Audio Production, having composed and produced music for over a dozen student films. From 2017 to 2019, he began teaching private guitar lessons in his neighborhood, eventually expanding to piano and bass guitar. During this time, he continued to produce scores for short films, TV pilots, and ads while freelancing and working odd jobs on the side. In 2019, he moved to Portland with his best friend and began a new chapter. It wasn't long before he started collaborating with local acts, both onstage and in-studio. In 2023, he began playing keyboard with Bodhi Mojo, a beloved jam-rock-funk group in the Portland jam scene.

Since 2020, he has been a featured artist and content creator for Casio Music Gear USA. He produced four short music videos for Casio in 2023, and the next year, he was invited to the 2024 NAMM Show to perform on their keyboards.

Owen has composed in classical, electronic, ambient, fusion, and experimental styles for short films, TV pilots, and an indie game (in development). He has produced and published four albums and an EP, with more on the way soon. He is grateful to share anything and everything he knows about music, keeping in mind that we are all students at the end of the day.
