Pianist/Composer/Cellist Rufus Bordal is a versatile performer with a passion for teaching. Raised in Los Angeles, he focused on classical piano, winning competitions and performing as a concerto soloist with orchestras like the USC Student Symphony and Pasadena Community Orchestra. As a Trustee Scholar at USC, he studied under Jeffrey Kahane, earning a Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano Performance with a Minor in Jazz Studies in 2023. Now, Rufus performs in jazz and fusion bands at venues such as The Mint and The Venice West, plays at restaurants and private events, accompanies students, and teaches private lessons to all ages. Rufus emphasizes the importance of developing a student’s passion and connection to music, understanding that not everyone aims to become a concert pianist. He believes in helping students find their personal connection to music for lifelong fulfillment. Rufus prioritizes developing well-rounded musicians, stressing the need for a balance between technical proficiency and musical creativity. He encourages students to explore various musical styles, enhancing their skills across genres. Rufus also advocates for the value of musical instruction at any age, reassuring adults that it’s never too late to learn or relearn music. He has seen significant progress in adult students, highlighting the rewarding nature of music education.
